What to Know About Encompass Insurance

Encompass Insurance was founded in 1897, making it a well-established carrier with nearly a century and a quarter’s worth of experience within the insurance industry. Though the insurance company’s name didn’t change to Encompass until 1999, its products have been around since 1897. Today, the carrier has been named one of the US’s largest casualty and personal property insurance brands to be sold exclusively through a network of independent insurance agents.

Encompass is a subsidiary of Allstate Insurance Company, which has been widely regarded as one of the top auto insurance companies in the country. The carrier has grown exponentially, now offering coverage through a large network of more than 2,600 independent insurance agents across the nation. Though coverage is not available everywhere, Encompass does offer its products in 39 states throughout the US, helping them reach many different types of insurance customers in need.

Because of its extremely long-standing history, impressive wide reach, and highly successful parent insurance company, Encompass is now recognized as a well-respected and financially stable carrier with a strong outlook for the future. A.M. Best, the leading global credit rating agency monitoring the insurance industry, gives Encompass an “A+” rating, indicating the carrier is a superior choice for insurance customers. A high rating from A.M. Best assures customers that Encompass is capable of offering guaranteed, secure coverage from a trustworthy and reputable carrier.

Established in 1899, A.M. Best is one of the oldest rating companies in the world. Reviews from A.M. Best indicate an insurance company’s financial strength and creditworthiness, and are based on comprehensive evaluations of the company’s operating performance, business profile, and balance sheet. For customers who aren’t as familiar with insurance companies’ respective reputations, A.M. Best’s ratings system allows them to make an informed decision about who they can trust to meet their needs in the short term, and also to remain a strong, financially sound company in the long term.

Encompass Insurance FAQ

What is Encompass's average claim response timeframe?

Encompass allows customers to file claims over the phone at any time. Their official website states that the carrier will respond to newly filed claims by following up with the customer through a claims specialist “by the next business day.”

What is Encompass's customer service availability?

Encompass provides 24/7 claims reporting for their customers via a toll-free phoneline. However, the carrier does not provide a regular customer service hotline, which is abnormal for a modern insurance company. The carrier does provide other contact options for their customers, though, including a form on the official website and email contacts. The insurance company also has a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, which makes them more accessible to customers.

What is Encompass's claims process?

Encompass allows their customers to file claims at any time via phone. The official website breaks down  the insurance company’s claims process in a few simple steps:

  • Step 1: Make a claim.

Call 1-800-588-7400 to report a home claim anytime, any day. Please have your policy number ready.

  • Step 2: Talk with a claims team member.

Your agent will be notified and an Encompass claims specialist will follow up with you by the next business day.1

  • Step 3: Evaluate damages and current coverage.

Confirm and determine coverage based on the circumstances of your loss.

  • Step 4: Prepare an estimate.

When necessary your claims team member may schedule an inspection of the damage and prepare an estimate for covered damages based on necessary repairs and/or replacement. We will work with you and your contractor to establish an estimate of repairs.

  • Step 5: Review your estimate.

Your adjuster will contact you to discuss the damage estimate and settlement based on your policy provisions, terms and coverage.

  • Step 6: Complete your claim.

We will send you appropriate documents and applicable payments.”

Customers can stay updated on their claim’s progress by keeping in touch with their independent insurance agent.

Does Encompass Insurance create a user-friendly experience for customers?

Encompass’s official website is excellent. In comparison to other modern carriers’ websites today, Encompass’s site is among the most intuitive and easiest to navigate. Important information can be located easily for prospective and current customers, and information provided on the website is detailed and thorough. Details about discounts and the carrier’s official claims process, for example, are prominently displayed on the website, which is a courtesy not provided by all insurance companies. The one aspect lacking from Encompass’s website is an option for online claims reporting.

Does Encompass have good auto insurance?

While Encompass offers many types of coverages, they’re most well known for their auto insurance. The insurance company provides the following coverages under their auto policies:

  • New car replacement: If a customer’s car (which is less than four years old) is totaled due to a covered loss, Encompass will replace the vehicle with that model in the current year, or a comparable new car if that model is no longer available. The customer is only responsible for paying their deductible.
  • Accident forgiveness: Following an accident, Encompass offers protection against rising premium rates. An optional upgrade to their Elite auto coverage provides protection for multiple at-fault accidents.
  • Loan/lease gap coverage: Makes up the difference between the current value of a vehicle and the remaining amount on its loan/lease.
  • Roadside assistance: Available for customers 24/7 for services such as flat tire repair, dead battery replacements, and more.

Your independent insurance agent can help you find out more about Encompass’s auto insurance policies, as well as their other products.

Is Encompass a good insurance company?

With extremely high ratings through both A.M. Best and the BBB, and a low level of customer complaints against the insurance company, Encompass has certainly earned a reputation as a good carrier. Customers report that the claims process runs smoothly and efficiently and largely seem satisfied with their coverage. The carrier also has sound financial strength which makes them even more dependable.

Encompass Insurance Customer Reviews

Better Business Bureau

“I can’t say anything but good things about Encompass home insurance. They have taken really good care of my needs pertaining to the abatement and restoration of my home which was due to major flood damage. They were professional, compassionate and sympathetic to my needs during my time of turmoil. Thank you, Encompass!! I really appreciate you!”

5 Stars
“My wife was involved in an auto accident in December of 2015 where she was hit from the rear while stopped at a light. The other driver was underinsured, his policy wasn't enough to even come close to the damage caused to our car and the car in front of us which my wife was pushed into. I contacted my insurance company, Encompass, and explained the situation and not only did they say to file through them and they would resolve it, but they gave far more value than the car was worth and were very easy to deal with. This was our first time in over 20 years of paying to actually need insurance and after hearing how much of a dumpster fire most insurance companies are I was pleasantly surprised to have such a smooth time dealing with Encompass.”

“This company took three months to notify me of a verdict. The worst insurance company ever. STAY AWAY FROM.”

TrustedChoice.com's Final Review

We award Encompass Insurance a final rating of 4 out of 5 stars. With well over a century’s worth of experience in the industry now, the insurance company’s history is certainly noteworthy and respectable, as are their extremely high ratings through both A.M. Best and the BBB. The insurance company offers 24/7 claims reporting for their customers via phone, but loses some points for not offering online claims reporting. Many glowing customer reviews for the carrier can be easily found across the web, but Encompass has had several complaints filed against them through the BBB in recent years, and is not currently BBB accredited. That being said, Encompass does appear to deliver on their coverage promises and keeps most of their customers happy. Their official website is excellent and makes it easy for current and future customers to find the information they need. We also love that they sell insurance exclusively through independent insurance agents and have a wide reach across the country. So, if you’re on the market for any of their offerings, we say don’t hesitate to ask your independent insurance agent about trusting Encompass Insurance with your coverage needs.
