Military and veteran life insurance discounts

No one is going to argue about how incredibly selfless and courageous the women, men and veterans of the military are. Heck, boot camp alone is enough to send the average Joe or Jane into a hunched-up ball under their bed. This sacrifice is not lost in the eyes of insurance companies, and many offer some pretty nice discounts as a small token of gratitude.

Luckily, our independent insurance agents know all about military and veteran life insurance discounts. They’ll help you zero in on qualifying companies, unlocking more savings, lower premiums and a lot less stress.

So let’s talk a little about military life insurance discounts, what they are and how you get ‘em. Don’t worry, though, this’ll be a cakewalk.

What Are Military & Veteran Life Insurance Discounts?

It’s simple: If you’re a current service member or veteran (and sometimes a spouse or child), many life insurance companies offer you a special discount.

Now, unlike many other more complicated discounts available on life insurance, military discounts are pretty simple. They work kinda like a coupon, skimming a percentage off the top of your premiums. How sweet is that?

How Do I Get Military & Veteran Life Insurance Discounts?

As long as you or a close family member serve (or have served), military and veteran discounts are some of the easiest life insurance discounts to get. And here’s how:

  • Gather paperwork: You’ll need to provide all the important details regarding your service (this includes your name, rank and dates of service) to the insurance company. Also, give your Commanding Officer (CO) a heads-up that you’re shopping for insurance—in some cases, a simple phone call from a CO can take the place of paperwork.
  • Have a heart-to-heart with an agent: The more your agent knows about you and your family, the more money they can save you. We’re talking stuff like age, occupation (if you’re reserve or a vet) and marital status—nothing too classified. You could even qualify for extra discounts in addition to military ones.
  • Compare wisely: After a little research, your agent will provide you with multiple insurance quotes. It’s tempting, but don’t go with the cheapest one automatically. Ask what discounts have been applied first. You could actually be getting more discounts and better coverage with a mid-range option.
