How Much Does RV Insurance Cost in Georgia?

Insurance for an RV depends on a number of factors. For starters, there are multiple types of recreational vehicles.

  • Class A RV: The largest RV available that is essentially a home on wheels.
  • Class B RVs: A smaller version of an RV, typically the size of a van, and can include a pop-up.
  • Class C RV: The mid-size version of an RV, between a Class A and Class B in size and amenities.
  • Towable Trailers: Camper trailers, travel trailers, and fifth-wheel trailers that can be towed behind a truck or SUV.

Your insurance premium will start with the type of RV you're looking to insure. From there, carriers will consider a number of additional factors to pull together your RV insurance quote.

  • The size of your RV
  • The age and condition
  • Your location
  • How often you drive
  • Where you plan on taking your RV
  • Previous claim history
  • Your personal experience driving an RV
  • The type of insurance you need
  • Your deductible
  • The amount of coverage you purchase

RV insurance is similar to Georgia car insurance in that there are a number of RV insurance discounts available to lower your premiums. From being a good driver to bundling policies like your Georgia homeowners insurance and car insurance with your RV coverage, your agent can help you discover ways to save.

What Does RV Insurance Cover in Georgia?

Georgia RV insurance is a combination of coverages you'd find in a homeowners insurance policy and a car insurance policy. This makes sense since an RV is like a home on wheels. The type of policies you purchase will depend on how you plan on using your RV.

If you will be living in your RV full-time you'll want a comprehensive policy that covers your RV like a home and a vehicle. If you plan on taking a few camping trips a year, you don't need as much protection. Basic RV insurance can provide the following coverage:

  • Collision coverage: Pays for any damage to your RV if you collide with another vehicle or object.
  • Liability coverage: Pays for any damage or liability that you may cause in the event of an accident.
  • Comprehensive coverage: Pays for any damage that occurs to your RV outside of a collision. This could be a fallen tree branch or damage from a severe storm.
  • Personal injury protection: Pays for your own medical bills in the event of an accident, whether you're at fault or not.
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist: Pays for damage to your RV that results from an accident caused by an uninsured motorist.
  • Contents coverage: Pays to repair or replace your personal belongings within your RV if they're damaged by a covered peril such as a fire or vandalism.

In addition to these basic coverages, your agent can discuss optional policies depending on your situation and how you use your RV.

  • Full-timer liability: This provides coverage similar to homeowners insurance and is designed for those who live in their RV.
  • Total loss replacement: This is typically available only for RVs that are less than five years old. In the event of a total loss, RV owners with this coverage can receive a comparable replacement vehicle, even if it costs more than the value of the one they lost.
  • Roadside assistance: Can provide assistance and compensation if your RV needs to be towed or repaired while on the road.

Is RV Insurance Required in Georgia?

Georgia law requires that all registered motor vehicles, including RVs, obtain a minimum of liability coverage. If you do not purchase liability coverage, the state can revoke your RV registration and fine you.

The minimum limits of liability insurance required under Georgia law are:

  • Bodily Injury Liability – $25,000 per person and $50,000 per incident
  • Property Damage Liability – $25,000 per incident

Even though it's not required, we recommend purchasing some additional coverages for your RV. There are 1407 fatal motor accidents per year in the state, so it's always useful to stay protected while on the road.
