Old United FAQ

What is Old United's average claim response time frame?

Old United's official website states, "The term for consideration of the claim is usually 10 working days (exceptions occur). Payment is made in accordance with the policy conditions to the insurance contract"

What is Old United's customer service availability?

Old United only provides a website contact form and various email addresses for contact methods. It is quite unusual for a modern carrier to not provide a phone number or business hours for their customers to reach them.

What is Old United's claims process?

Old United's official website lists their claims process as follows.

  1. "If an insured event has occurred, you must first seek medical help (if required);
  2. Notify the company about an insurance event. Report the event in any available way: send a message to email, inform by phone. It is necessary to notify of an insurance event within 30 days from the date of the event;
  3. Provide a complete list of documents, the list of which depends on the type of contract and risks. All provided certificates of the insured event must be filled out correctly. Both originals and certified copies are accepted for consideration. All medical documents are certified by the institutions that created them, and other documents must be stamped by a notary or the issuing authority (court, police, prosecutor’s office). If necessary, the company can request any documents evidencing the occurrence of the insured event, and independently investigate all the circumstances of the case;
  4. Send the package to the Insurer. You can often do it by filling out a claim on the company’s website with the required documents attached."

Does Old United create a user-friendly experience for customers?

Old United's website is quite simple and bare compared to many modern carriers today. There's not much information provided about coverage, discounts, claims, etc. Further, the carrier only allows customers to contact them through email or a contact form on the website. Old United also does not seem to have a LinkedIn page, or any social media presence whatsoever.

Does Old United have good watercraft insurance?

Old United offers a few forms of coverage, but the only one that seems to have any specific details provided is their watercraft insurance. The official website lists the following details about the carrier's watercraft policies.

"The insurance reimburses losses associated with the complete loss of the insured object, both actual and constructive, as well as the costs of repairing damage to the hull, mechanisms, equipment resulting from the following issues.

  • Fire or explosion, natural disaster

Additional risks

  1. Damage / theft of the vessel during transportation

  3. Liability of the shipowner for harm caused to the life and health of third parties
  4. Liability of the shipowner for damage to the environment

Old United Customer Reviews

Yelp
I would give this place ZERO stars if I could.  I have been dealing with their marine department and their lack of professionalism is worse then anything I have ever encountered.  If you need any type of insurance I would avoid this place, and furthermore if this is how the Van Enterprises operates all their business I steer clear.

Yelp
This company led me to believe I had GAP insurance coverage.  [. . .] This company basically looked for a reason to deny my claim. No information says that I used the vehicle primarily for commercial purposes. These cowards sent the premium back to the lien holder, as if I never had a policy.  What they have done is contradictory. MPP searched for a reason to get out of something I clearly paid for. This company went back and reworked the terminology and guidelines for their own benefit and left me in a problematic situation because of their actions. Being involved in an accident, I really believed I had no worries other than my injuries. I was led to believe I had coverage that would blanket the difference after the payout, on my vehicle. Vague and nebulous concepts is what they have demonstrated [. . .]

Yelp
I would also give Old United zero stars if I could. We were in the process of selling my late father's boat when the boatyard did not secure it. The interior flooded due to storms and no one noticed for two months. The resulting damage was extensive. Old United said it was not a covered event and completely cut us to the wind. They would not recommend a strategy to approach the boatyard or the boatyards insurance company. They would not recommend an independent surveyor or independent repair yard. They took my father's premium for 20+ years without a claim and when we needed them they said "non-covered event goodbye". Do yourself a favor and find another insurance company.

I am a new customer of Old United Marine Insurance and I have to say they do not have their act together when it comes to Billing and/or Customer Service !!!! I have been trying to pay my bill on a weekly basis so I can pay the premium off quickly. I have also been working with a rep that has tried to help but I am no further along than I was (3) months ago !!!! [. . .] I am so frustrated at this point, I am thinking of canceling my policy and going back to BoatUs!!!!

It has been over a month and still have not paid my gap. I have done everything they asked and more than what my regular insurance asked and they paid most of it. I hate this company and will never use again or recommend.

TrustedChoice.com's Final Review

We award Old United Insurance Company a final rating of 1 out of 5 stars. Though the carrier is highly rated by AM Best and the BBB, they are not accredited by the latter organization. The insurance company also does not provide much information at all about its coverage or discounts.

Old United does offer a few forms of coverage, including home and personal watercraft insurance. But the most disturbing thing is that virtually all the customer reviews for the carrier are purely negative, and financial strength alone is not reason enough to entrust a company with your coverage needs.

Another strange thing about Old United is they seem to lack a social media presence entirely, which is not really acceptable for a modern carrier. Overall, we recommend working together with an independent insurance agent to survey your options for quality coverage, and skip looking into Old United Insurance Company.
