AssuranceAmerica Score

2.5 Stars

Founded in 1998, AssuranceAmerica is a privately held company that provides property and casualty insurance to the non-standard private automobile segment in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

AssuranceAmerica is headquartered in Atlanta, GA, and depends on a network of independent insurance agencies to sell policies.

AssuranceAmerica has not been rated by AM Best or any other major financial ratings agency, and it currently receives an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

We award AssuranceAmerica a final rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars. Customers who need non-standard coverage in order to drive legally because of past issues with their driving record should consider AssuranceAmerica.

The company offers three tiers of coverage, so you can protect your own car in addition to simply purchasing state-mandated liability coverage. And you can buy your policy with the help of an independent insurance agent. The company’s find-an-agent tool will even help you find a local agent.

Unfortunately, AssuranceAmerica does not have any ratings that reflect its financial strength and stability. It’s important to know if an insurance company will be there to pay claims when you need them. Without outside evaluation, it’s impossible to know the exact financial condition of AssuranceAmerica. This should at the very least give prospective customers pause in purchasing a policy.

The high quantity of complaints and failing BBB rating are also serious concerns.

If, however, a policy fits your needs and budget, AssuranceAmerica may be an option for certain high-risk drivers. If you live in AssuranceAmerica’s service area, you can get help evaluating AssuranceAmerica by working with a local independent insurance agent

Claims can be reported to AssuranceAmerica 24/7 by phone. Regular claims service hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.  Claim information can also be sent to AssuranceAmerica by regular mail, and can be reported online through the company’s online self-service tool.

AssuranceAmerica has an easy-to-navigate website that offers some options for online self-service, including making payments, finding an agent, and reporting claims. AssuranceAmerica offers three tiers of auto insurance coverage for high-risk drivers, allowing these drivers the ability to meet the insurance requirements of their states and drive legally.

  • Minimum coverage: Provides only the legal minimum insurance coverage required by your state
  • Full coverage: Includes comprehensive and collision coverage for your vehicle, in addition to liability insurance to meet your state’s requirements
  • Premium coverage: Includes liability coverage, comprehensive and collision coverage, uninsured motorist coverage, and medical payments coverage

Auto insurance from AssuranceAmerica can be customized with the option of adding personal injury protection (PIP), towing, and accidental death coverage. The company does not offer liability coverage that is greater than the minimum amount required by your state. Customers cannot raise their liability insurance limits.

AssuranceAmerica offers high-risk drivers a chance to obtain insurance coverage and drive legally. The company serves an important purpose for individuals who otherwise may not be able to get affordable coverage, or any coverage at all. The company is not rated for its financial strength, and it has received a high volume of complaints from customers.
