Q: Where do blizzards occur?

A: Blizzards can occur everywhere in the United States. However, they’re more common in some areas than others. For example, the upper Midwest and Great Plains are the most blizzard-prone areas of the country. This is because these regions are home to the convergence of low- and high-pressure conditions that literally create the perfect storm (blizzard, that is).

That being said, blizzards are uncommon in the Gulf Coast and along the California coast. Otherwise, they are notorious for occurring everywhere, even in unlikely areas like the tropics and the likeliest areas like the mountaintops. As a general rule of thumb, the further you are from the equator, the stronger blizzards become.
